Leadership

In the summer of 2009, Independent Thinking conducted a leadership survey. We asked individuals who began headships in July 2008 and 2009 to share their resumes. With the resume information as data, we examined what trends and patterns were apparent in who was being hired to run schools today. In addition, heads who had been on the job for at least a year, offered responses to a few questions about their experiences. This information is helpful for Boards to consider when planning how best to support a new head of schools AND for future school leaders as they work to gain the necessary relevant experience.

  • Independent Thinking presented a workshop on the findings at the 2010 California Association of Independent Schools Trustees and Head of School conference. The accompanying PowerPoint presentation has been turned into a PDF and is available here.
